Place: Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Time: Saturday 28 February 2009 16.00-18.00.
Subject: Preparing session with 21 moderators of the Reflective Conservatoire.
Introduction and hand out: Bart van Rosmalen (Royal Conservatoire The Hague

Goal: sharing knowledge, optimize knowledge circulation
Approach: seeing the session as a play with a focus on role and personage of the moderator. Identifying seven possible moments in his or her script to ‘act’.
Cast of the play: - Moderator, - Soloist(s), - Chorus

Seven stages1- Preparing the playground
- does the space fit the scene? is the physical arrangement fixed or flexible?
- do I want to change it, make it more into a playground?2- Appointments with the soloist
- what can I achieve in my short interaction with the soloist before?
- do I want to discuss my possible interventions or find a shared focus point?
- what can I contribute to make it for the soloist as meaningful as possible?3- Setting the context
- how to create the best conditions and a context for the session to take place?
- how do I use the introduction of my own personage, the role of the audience (chorus), the personage of the soloist, to create a context, build positive meaningful tension for…4- Introduction of the theme
- how to introduce the theme? Curious, decisive, with a joke?
- in what listening position do I want to bring the chorus?
- what is the best starting point to launch the solo?
- short moments of interaction, hearing some expectations?

5- The solo
- do I stay visible as a ‘first’ listener?
- body language, signals or jokes to deal with time limits?
- a quasi unforeseen intervention in the solo to provoke positive tension?

6- A chorus in improvisation
- how to create quick (unforeseen, improvised) participation after a long solo?
- a short summary or short interview to bridge to the chorus?
- ‘debate’ or ‘dialogue’? Do I want the chorus to argue, to criticize or to generate?
- what interventions or forms might help the knowledge circulation?

7- Coda
- how can I make the shared feeling of ‘come to an ending’ productive?
- my focus in the coda? The soloist, my own contribution, the chorus?
- how to anchor (to brand) this session in the brains of the audience?
